COMUNE DI CASALBELTRAME (NO)

Risale al 1067 la prima testimonianza della presenza in loco di una fortificazione già esistente nel X secolo, a difesa dell'attiguo villaggio.
Nonostante gli evidenti rimaneggiamenti subiti nel corso dei secoli e volti ad adattare l'edificio a usi diversi, è ipotizzabile che, fin dalle origini, la struttura avesse più le caratteristiche di un vero e proprio castello che quelle di un ricetto.
L'attuale edificio è caratterizzato da una forma pseudo ellittica con muratura in mattoni, rinforzata agli spigoli di base con conci di pietra squadrati, copertura in coppi e facciata che lascia ancora intravedere stemmi nobiliari.
La strada che lo circonda ha cancellato la presenza dell'antico fossato. Oggi l'intero complesso, in evidente stato di degrato è di proprietà privata.

The earliest recorded evidence of a fortification already existent on the site in the 10th century, for the defence of the nearby village, dates from 1067.
Although the building has evidently been alterated through the centuries in order to adapt it to various purposes, it can be surmised that from its beginnings the structure had the characteristics of a proper castle rather than those of a retreat.
The present-day building, pseudoelliptical in shape, is of brickwork with square ashlars to strengthen the corners of the foundations, a tiled roof and a façade on which the coats-of-arms of the nobility can still be seen.
The road surrounding it has covered the ancient moat. Today the entire building is privately owned and in a bad state of conservation.
